Experimental Rocket Explodes on Test Stand

Writer's picture: Director of DAADDirector of DAAD

The New Minnesota Department of Aeronautic and Aerospace Defense (DAAD) has suffered a major setback. On November 8, 2019, at 9:20pm an experimental rocket was about to light its engine when it experienced an anomaly. The anomaly appears to be a significant over-pressure event that resulted in the complete loss of the rocket and damage to the test stand.

The rocket, which uses sulfur for propellant and potassium chlorate for oxidizer, was testing a new design that used a high volume of air with a small volume of oxygen. (as opposed to the 50-50 mixture used on previous designs) The source of the anomaly comes from excessive amounts of propellant and oxidizer being loaded into the rocket. When the rocket was ignited, this overload of propellant over-pressurized the combustion chamber and caused it to rupture.

The Director of DAAD is now requesting additional funding from Congress in order to make up for this failure without falling behind schedule.

The Department of Defense still has not released any official footage of the test.
